There are guided river boats and rafting tours that can be found at Tenryugawa, or Tenryu river, which flows through Iida, Nagano prefecture. They are open most of the year with the summer as the peak season, and they are a good way to stay cool and beat the heat. They are also open during the winter season for visitors to see the snow-covered riverbanks and surrounding forest. The tour will take the group down the river and show them both natural and manmade structures. The whole ride is about 30 minutes from start to finish.
The tours also goes through three levels of rapid currents. It goes from calm waters to whitewater rapids. The old wooden-style Japanese river boat is large and can fit 20-30 people. This is also the only ride in which you stay dry. Rafts can fit 6-10 people. Rafting is definitely a summer adventure only. This is one wet ride, and they actually encourage people to get into the water and jump off a rock two or three meters high into the river. At the end of the ride, they bring everyone back to the office using a bus. The nearest station is Inayawata Station. Come and enjoy this adventure-packed location.
