What's this?
Yamasa Chikuwa
During the Bunsei period, Zensaku Sato (first-generation proprieter) ran a fish wholesaler and went to worship Konpira while staying at an inn at Yoshida along the Tokaido, halfway to Edo (modern-day Tokyo). He was surprised by the taste of chikuwa, which he saw there. Soon after, he started to make chikuwa at Sanshu Yoshida, which is famous for its abundant seafood. This is how Toyohashi's famous Yamasa Chikuwa began.
