KENROKUEN GARDEN
IN ISHIKAWAKanrokuen Garden, a strolling-style garden, is one of the three most famous gardens in Japan.
Kenrokuen Garden, one of the three most famous gardens in Japan, was built in the Edo period (1603-1868). Each of the three famous gardens is famous for its snow, moon, and flower scenery, and Kenrokuen Garden represents the beauty of snow. In winter, gardeners perform the traditional snow hanging "Yukitsuri" to prevent trees from breaking under heavy snow. The branches of the trees are fixed with poles and ropes, and the ropes are spread out radially from the poles, giving the trees the appearance of wearing a cloak. This displays the gardener's skill, and is usually done in November before the snowfall season, and removed in March when the season is over. It has become a winter tradition in Kanazawa.
