This suggested itinerary takes you on a journey through Japan’s spiritual and cultural heritage, with stops at sacred places such as Ise Jingu, the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route, and the Kumano Sanzan Shrines. Starting in Nagoya and continuing through Matsusaka, Ise-Shima, Kumano City, and the Kumano Sanzan area, the route offers encounters with historic townscapes, shrines and temples in harmony with nature, and breathtaking World Heritage sites. 1 Nagoya

4 Kumano Kodo Iseji Route

The Kumano Kodo Iseji Route connects Ise and Kumano and is one of Japan’s ancient pilgrimage paths. At Matsumoto-toge Pass, you can walk on original stone-paved trails, beautifully preserved through time. From the top, take in stunning views of the blue sea and the long stretch of Shichiri-Mihama Beach—where nature and history meet in harmony.

5 World Heritage Sites of Kumano City
